Already over 2 weeks into the new year! I reflect that 2011 was a great for transitions and I wish to sincerely thank everyone who contributed to the growth of my creative endeavor in 2011! 2012 marks the beginning of a new chapter in this undertaking and to commemorate that, I have made a variety of changes which reflect this progression of ideas and creative orientation:

Mariposa Artisan Textiles is now Kathy Colt/Artisan Textiles. For a more prosaic account of this symbol which has guided and nourished me for the past 5+ years please visit my web journal On Artisan Textiles. You will still be able to find all of my textile-specific work, including new work later this Spring, at www.mariposaartisan.com.

Teaching. I have 2 wonderful workshops in the planning stages right now. One will be a 1-day nuno felting intensive offered in April at my studio but through the Southeast Fiber Arts Alliance (SEFAA) (a portion of the proceeds will benefit SEFAA). Also, in September, I will be teaching a nuno felting weekend immersion workshop at the first annual Georgia Alpaca FiberFest - my workshop will include, among other things, a look at alpaca fiber as a design material, and I’m excited about opportunity to explore some of Georgia’s home-grown alpaca fiber! Stay tuned for more updates.

More new work to view – among the pieces, a black silk tunic with stitched texture on the bodice, new embellished sheer wraps, a new “wavy-o” short muffler with fringe and the big piece of the moment: the new slate “sweater” in a cut small tesselating pattern. Look for more of this type of piece on the horizon….

Mariposa Artisan Textiles is celebrating entering its 5th year with a Show of New Work and Studio Sale:

Friday, September 24, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Saturday, September 25, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

I am thrilled to be still going strong and able to present this new round of work to you!! Thank you for all of your support over these past nearly five years. I’m looking forward to more unfolding in the future.

New Work for Fall 2010!

Welcome to the first official post for the new Mariposa Artisan Textiles blog! Things are expanding on all fronts here at Studio Mariposa. You can still visit www.kathycolt.com for images and information about workshops, as well as a link to my artisan textile blog (www.posietex.wordpress.com). However, this blog dedicated entirely to work emerging under the Mariposa Artisan Textiles label. I am currently working on a new round of work and I want to share new images and info about some of that work:

The Webwave Collection. This Fall I continue a further exploration of nuno felt for wearables with more work from the Webwave series. The jacket to the left is a one-of-a-kind piece created specifically for an upcoming fiber exhibition (more about that later in the posietex blog). The skirt is in the webwave pattern on paj silk. The Webwave Stole (above)- a new item has a crocheted ribbon edge. This piece can be worn in a number of ways and the ties and crocheted loops add to the variation.

This plum and indigo combination shows a second view of the Webwave Stole with another new piece - the WavyOh neck accent – hand cut and crocheted, the openings in the piece allow for variations in the wearing – also a funky little waist accent… These pieces are worn over one of my new fusion pieces (you’ll be seeing more of these in the future) – the indigo tunic is a fused composite of a variety of silk fibers and fabrics, all hand-dyed; the piece is edged at the bodice with ribbon.
